Arlington Memorial Bridge to close for repairs Sept. 14-17; Tires continue to be stolen from cars in Arlington, Fairfax counties

Should the weather cooperate, the National Park Service says that the Arlington Memorial Bridge will shut down for repairs starting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Sept. 17.

On Aug. 3, all four tires were stolen off of an Arlington resident’s car, which was parked in a Pentagon City apartment garage. Two weeks later, the same thing happened to his roommate. Since June 1, this has happened five times in Arlington, and between June 1 and July 31, 30 Fairfax County cars had at least one rim or tire stolen.

Wednesday, an Alabama man was caught trying to get a loaded gun through Dulles International Airport security. This is the 12th gun found at Dulles this year (19 were found at Dulles last year) and so far nine guns have been found at Reagan National Airport. TSA officials say approximately 80 percent of found guns are loaded.

Private preschool Primrose School of Reston, part of a franchise, will open this fall at 1309 N. Village Road and be open from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Two other locations are planned for Aldie and Leesburg.

Because the bullets did not match his gun, Loudoun County prosecutors dropped the murder charges against 38-year-old Herndon resident Brian Welsh, who has been accused of killing Mala Manwani, 65, and her son Rishi Manwani, 32, in their Aldie home.

On this year’s Standards of Learning tests, Falls Church City and Loudoun County students had the highest passing rates in NoVA, though overall pass rates in Virginia decreased from the previous school year.
