Toddler dies from Fairfax County apartment balcony fall; Power issues shut down part of Blue Line, cause delays on Silver and Yellow lines

Monday afternoon, a toddler fell from a 24th floor Fairfax County apartment balcony located at Seminary Road and was pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier this year, another child fell from the apartment complex and also died.

Many individuals’ morning commute was negatively impacted by power issues plaguing Metro’s Blue, Yellow and Silver lines Tuesday morning. The Blue Line shut down between Franconia-Springfield and Arlington National Cemetery, and the the Yellow and Silver lines saw delays due to power complications at McLean and Van Dorn.

Near London’s House of Parliment, a car crashed through pedestrians and cyclists, sending two to the hospital, though the injuries were not life-threatening. The incident is being investigated as a terrorist attack.

With one in nine Virginia residents struggling with hunger, 77 youths from the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington St. Lucy Food Project, the youth group at Annandale’s Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Lake Braddock High School and more gathered more than 10,000 pounds of corn for area food banks, one of them the Healthy Harvest Food Bank in Warsaw.
