Conner McGowan, a junior at Robinson Secondary School, has passed away following a car crash that happened in Clifton on Tuesday. McGowan was driving the vehicle, which went off the road and hit a tree. Another Robinson student was seriously injured in the crash and a second passenger remains in the hospital as well.

Sense of Place Cafe was broken into and robbed overnight, with thieves stealing the contents of the register (approximately $150) and a book of co-owner Kay Kim’s notes on roasting coffee beans, leading employees to believe that the robbery may have been carried out by someone who knew the cafe very well. The iPad used to take orders was left untouched, as were the expensive espresso machines.

Despite his request to delay his July 25 trial for bank and tax fraud and stay put in his Northern Neck jail, Paul Manafort has been ordered by a federal judge to move into an Alexandria jail. According to jailhouse phone calls, at his current detention center Manafort does not have to wear a uniform and has both a phone and a computer.

Tony Dane will appear in court today to be sentenced for striking and killing an Ashburn mother of three when his bus, which had been converted into a food truck, ran through a stop sign. The bus failed to brake, but prosecutors have said that Dane knew the bus was not properly maintained, having told a sheriff’s deputy that he noticed the brakes were “spongy” while driving from Front Royal to Leesburg.

At 10 p.m. Thursday night and again Friday night, three Dulles Toll Road lanes will close as construction crews will be working on the pedestrian bridges at the Reston Town Center and Herndon Metrorail Stations. The closures are expected to add 20-minute stops to drivers’ trips. The lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Wednesday, John Schnatter, the founder of pizza chain Papa John’s, quit his post as the company’s board chairman after admitting to, and apologizing for, using a racial slur while talking to a marketing agency on the phone.
