A graduate of Oakton High School and her parents have filed a lawsuit against Fairfax County Public Schools, claiming that they failed to take appropriate action and uphold Title IX when the then 17-year-old came forward about an alleged sexual assault that had happened between herself and a male student on a band trip in March 2017. The school system said that the alleged sexual assault was only a “sexual encounter” and “sexual activity,” claiming that the girl was not forced into the act.
