The Most Expensive Homes Sold So Far This Year in Northern Virginia

Expensive homes and Northern Virginia go hand in hand.

By Laura Scudder April 5, 2022 at 3:30 pm

Vaulted ceilings, a grand foyer set with a dramatic staircase, a movie theater, a spa: The 10 most expensive homes in Northern Virginia sold so far in 2022 all offer amenities fit for a palace. Sharing a blend of modern and classical interior design, these homes don’t spare any expenses.

Not surprisingly, eight of these homes are in McLean, (Langley, specifically). The two most expensive homes were built in 2021, with the rest mostly coming in the 2000s and 2010s—but there’s one older spot that still turns heads. From most to “least” expensive, here are NoVA’s top 10 priciest homes sold so far this year.

$11 million: 1011 Turkey Run Rd., McLean

With an eye on its heritage as a crossroads between Washington, DC, and Virginia, the Federal Hill Estate in the village of Langley commands views in all directions. This location, built in 2021, is a real-life Clue board, as it contains a wine cellar, safe room, home theaters, billiards room, and grand ballroom amongst its seven bedrooms and vast outdoor space.

$7.5 million: 1004 Dogue Hill Ln., McLean

In the heart of historic Langley Farms, the Dogue Hill estate provides limitless entertaining options. The upper level terrace features a barbeque station, outdoor refrigerator and sink, and firebox perfect for summer nights. Inside, a steam shower, game room, two-sided fireplace, and elevator that services the house’s three levels complete the experience.

$7.5 million: 6622 Malta Ln., McLean

Located at the end of a secluded private lane, this estate in the Langley Farms neighborhood has an exterior ripe with resort-like features. A large heated pool with a waterfall feature, a pond with another waterfall, park-like grounds, and gardens with mature trees all complete the outdoor space. The inside is just as extravagant, as the gracious family room features a dramatic two-story beamed ceiling.

$5.6 million: 7853 Langley Ridge Rd., McLean

As one of the most distinctive estates in McLean, the tree-lined driveway of this home brings its residents to a five-car garage. The outdoor space is not the only significant aspect of this home — it also features a grand foyer containing an elegant curved staircase, complete with wrought iron rails, as part of its luxury indoor space.

$5.3 million: 904 Chinquapin Rd., McLean

Elegance and privacy are put first at this estate. The tree-lined driveway at the entrance of this stone home is only the beginning of a serene surrounding landscape. A movie theater and spa suite, a professional office and library with outside access, a separate music or receiving room, and a wrap-around deck in the rear of the house are all features.

$5.1 million: 448 River Bend Rd., Great Falls

The thoughtful design of this impressive property offers something for everyone, from the basketball court to the wine cellar. Like the other houses on this list, this location is fit to entertain. A bar room with a full-size bar that seats up to 10 and a separate pool house comprising a living and party room, with a full kitchen and full bath on the main level, are sure to please any guest.

$5.1 million: 417 S Fairfax St., Alexandria

There’s not just one special thing about this Old Town Alexandria home. It was built in 1800, making it the oldest location on this top 10 list, and is also the only townhome. Its seven bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms are a draw. While the location includes a basement, there aren’t many details about the interior of this home — but there is one that might displease those who want a driveway: Only on-street parking is available.

$4.6 million: 6815 Wemberly Way, McLean

A balcony, multiple laundry centers, and guest quarters all make this Langley Forest neighborhood a unique location. The open floor plan with white oak and wide plank flooring also serves to bring light into the home’s multiple levels. Limestone walkways and extensive landscaping make for a beautiful backyard experience.

$4.6 million: 703 Potomac Knolls Dr., McLean

This Potomac riverfront property provides easy access to the water and is built for the views — with walls of windows, French doors, and large balconies all serving living and entertaining possibilities both inside and out. The spectacular panoramic river views also include a rare dramatic view of Perry Island’s rock face. The exterior views don’t just make the estate. On the inside, a private library with built-in shelves and a fireplace are just one of the rooms that will have everyone in awe.

$4.5 million: 1107 Harvey Rd., McLean

This architecturally detailed stone masterpiece is on Langley Farms and has an expansive rear patio with a built-in grill and pergola. With a landscape that highlights seasonal covers, this home’s main floor contains two offices and a family room adorned with a majestic stone fireplace and vaulted beamed ceiling.
