Say after a couple hundred loads, your laundry space just isn’t working for you. What are some tips to make it more functional?
Experts say if a homeowner is looking to renovate a kitchen and bathroom on the main floor, the creation of a more functional laundry room might also be on that to-do list. But sometimes, ironing out a new laundry floor plan is its own job.
And as with most home upgrades, experts want to take a detailed look at precisely how you live in your home.
“What we really want people to think through first is how they are using their existing space,” says Wilma Bowers, co-owner of Bowers Design Build.
Bowers, like other professionals, wants to know what you like about your home and what you don’t, what works and what doesn’t and how much time you spend where. Those responses translate into plans that make your home work better for you or, in this case, to make laundry seem like less of a chore.
Whether your laundry list includes more space for folding, scrubbing out stains or ironing dress shirts, a redo promises much-improved flow.
“Having a functional, efficient laundry room is important to making life a little bit easier,” says Bruce Wentworth, president of Wentworth Inc. “It’s one more task that we all have to do, and we might as well make it as easy as possible.”
