What’s New This Season at NoVA’s Farmers Markets?

See some of the new vendors and other changes you’ll find at the region’s markets.

By Maggie Roth April 19, 2024 at 11:50 am

NoVA has an abundance of great farmers markets where shoppers can find fresh produce, jams and jellies, prepared foods, and other handmade goods. Many markets are beginning to open for the season — and there are some exciting changes in store. From new vendors to exciting sustainability initiatives, here’s a sampling of what you’ll find at your favorite farmers markets this season.

Mosaic FreshFarm

The Mosaic farmers market went through an expansion last August, growing to about 60 total vendors and extending its space by three blocks. Some new friendly faces joined in 2024:

  • All Day Health Bar, serving gluten-free health bars
  • Blue Stone Kabob, serving Afghan cuisine
  • Grateful Gardeners for cut flowers
  • Lou’s Bun’s cinnamon buns
  • The Preppy Pretzel

Mosaic is one of multiple FreshFarm markets in the region, and all offer plenty of artisan offerings. At the Reston market, Rock Run Creek Farm joined this year to offer mushrooms, microgreens, and other fresh produce. In Rosslyn, My Cravingz is new and offers Turkish breakfasts, pastries, and desserts.

Old Town Farmers’ Market

This staple Saturday market is the oldest farmers market in the country held continuously at the same site. Several new vendors joined old favorites this season:

  • Bun-d Up, serving bao buns
  • Common Roots Farm, with fresh organic produce
  • Farm Kettle Corn
  • Fresh Crunch, with pickled vegetables
  • Kesh and Fresh for vegetarian Moroccan spreads
  • Say Vrai, with gluten-free pasta and baked goods
  • Star in the Valley Estate Winery
  • White Lily Shoppe bath and body products
  • Pho From Home, with frozen pho
  • Jinlan Wenhua for dumplings
  • Tae-Gu Kimchi
  • The Welle Made Co., serving savory pies
  • Maracas Ice Pops frozen fruit pops

Fredericksburg Farmers Market at Hurkamp Park

The Fredericksburg market has over 30 vendors, and it often welcomes pop-up or rotating vendors who keep things exciting. This season, it welcomed four new vendors.

  • Comal Y Fuego Salvadoran cuisine
  • Earth’s Echo Farm
  • Lil Tea’s Specialty Desserts
  • True Honey Teas

Fairfax County Farmers Markets

At Fairfax County’s 10 farmers markets, sustainability is the name of the game. The county has partnered with Future Acres Urban Farming to provide food scrap collection so shoppers can reduce waste and help create compost.

The markets are also focusing on reducing the use of single-use plastic bags, which means all vendors will have reusable baskets for shopping and compostable plastic bags only when necessary. Reusable shopping bags will be given away at the market season openings, and there will be a canvas bag giveaway in July.

The markets are all producer-only, meaning that vendors only sell what they grow on their farms or make from scratch, and most producers come from a 125-mile radius of Fairfax County.

EatLoco

Two of EatLoco’s four Loudoun County farmers markets have brand new locations. The Saturday market formerly at One Loudoun is now in the Christian Fellowship Church parking lot at 44505 Atwater Dr. in Ashburn. The Sunday Brambleton market is now at The Barn at Brambleton’s parking lot at 24439 Evergreen Mills Rd.
