When we think of dining in Old Town Alexandria, most of our favorites are on the upscale side. For diner fans, that may be about to change. Longtime local favorite Bob & Edith’s Diner has announced that it is opening its sixth location this fall on King Street, in the heart of all the action.
“My dad became an integral part of the Arlington community when he opened our original location, and my family has continued that tradition as we’ve continued to expand the Bob & Edith’s Diner brand,” said owner Greg Bolton in a press release. “My family and dedicated staff are in our restaurants every day, and we can’t wait to become a part of the Old Town Alexandria community when we open our doors later this year.” Bob and Edith Bolton opened the first of their diners in 1969 in Arlington. Now son Greg operates the business with his kids Tammy and Chris.
What can customers expect in Old Town? The same diner fare they’ve been enjoying for more than half a century. All-day breakfast is the centerpiece of the menu, with traditional offerings including homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, ribeye steak and eggs, and breakfast plates featuring scrapple. The rest of the day, guests can plan on classics ranging from burgers and BLTS to liver and onions and homemade meat loaf. For dessert, there are freshly baked pies and hand-spun milkshakes. The menu is a taste of history in a neighborhood known for its rich heritage.// 1743 King St., Alexandria
