Craving a new take on craft beer? Adroit Theory Brewing in Purcellville has you covered with its beer slushies.
This refreshing frozen concoction takes one of the brewery’s base beers, such as a sour, and adds different flavors to it like peach, strawberry, banana, or vanilla to create a whole new drink experience.
“The ratios on the additions are pretty high since you’re taking something that’s sour and making it sweet,” says owner Mark Osborne.
In order for the brews to freeze, they need just the right amount of sugar content, he adds.

Introducing Frozen Brews
The addition of beer slushies is not exactly new to Adroit Theory, as it has served them on special occasions in the past.
It all started several years back when they rented a machine to serve red, white, and blue beer slushies for the Fourth of July.
“It was very nostalgic, patriotic, and delicious,” says Osborne. “People really seemed to enjoy it.”
From that holiday on, the brewery rented the machine for other major holidays until it decided earlier this year to purchase its own.
The slushies have been a hit with customers ever since.
Every week, the brewery creates three new slushy concoctions for patrons to try.
“Sometimes it will be fruited sours and other times we will use a stout and add stuff to make it sweeter and dairy-based,” Osborne says.

Seasonal Slushies Year-Round
While slushies are popular in the warmer months, Osborne plans to keep them going all year with flavors to match the seasons.
For instance, its Dia De Los Muertos slushy is spiced pumpkin chai latte–flavored, like “an adults Starbucks in a glass with 12% ABV.”
This fall, patrons can expect to see holiday-themed frozen brews such as a candy bar-oriented ice cream stout for Halloween, cranberry dressing and sweet potato pie slushies for Thanksgiving, and a candy cane-themed drink for Christmas.
“We are always trying to kind of tie in what’s going on currently in our slushy flavors,” Osborne says.
The brewery typically announces the new flavors on its website on Mondays or Tuesdays before launching them on Wednesdays.
The slushies are first come, first serve and tend to sell out by the weekend so if you see a flavor you want to try, don’t miss out by waiting!
