Despite the vast number of Vietnamese options in Eden Center, there’s still very likely a chance a line will form out the door at this longtime favorite. Through Rice Paper’s vestibule—with white-stone-lined foyer, groovy yet modern tie-dye-inspired wallpaper dotted with gold-rimmed round mirrors and wall sconces—the aroma of grilled meats, fresh herbs and fish sauce is the first tip-off as to why this place is so popular.
Don’t feel overwhelmed when the hefty menu arrives. Stick with the familiar—perhaps a bowl of pho with steamy tendrils of star anise rising from the surface of the rich broth—or try a duo of imperial autumn rolls, golden fried and filled with marinated minced prawn, crab, taro and yam. Grilled lemon chicken skewers can be tucked into broad, dewy lettuce leaves or into a large, soften-it-yourself round of rice paper. Caramelized fish in a clay pot is a marvelously comforting bowl of flaky white fish chunks in a peppery, not-too-sweet sauce that is the reason for that long line in the first place.
