Try These New Korean Barbecue Restaurants Around NoVA

Korean barbecue is having a moment in our region, and we’ve rounded up some of the best of the bunch for you to try.

By Alice Levitt April 11, 2025 at 7:00 am

It could be argued that Korean food is the official cuisine of Northern Virginia. With our thriving Koreatowns in both Centreville and Annandale, there’s long been a lot to love, particularly when it comes to grilled meat, cooked right at your table. In more recent years, excellent Korean barbecue has been moving beyond those cities.

Even if you say that we’re better represented by something else (upscale Indian, perhaps?), there’s no getting around the fact that Korean barbecue is having a moment in our region. We present the following evidence. Just try one of these contenders for a taste of the delicious gestalt.

Chosun Hwaro Korean BBQ

This popular Ellicott City grill opened in a new Fairfax development at the end of 2024. On the expansive menu, galbi (short ribs) is a specialty. In fact, there are no fewer than nine varieties thereof. Dishes include $89 wagyu short ribs; signature Angus Empress and Emperor’s Galbi; and long-marinated, bone-in L.A. galbi. 10790 Fairgrounds Dr., Fairfax

Oseyo Korean BBQ

Combos are relatively inexpensive and high-quality at this sleek Lansdowne restaurant. I tried the $68 beef combo for two, which included four meats expertly cooked by the friendly servers. Combos come with rice, corn cheese, and a stone bowl of bubbling tofu soup. 19286 Promenade Dr., Leesburg

Seoul Prime

The Honest Grill team has topped itself by hiring Clarity alum Danny Kim to lead its kitchen. The “fusion-oriented” menu here includes apps like galbi-jjim risotto and cheffed-up tteokbokki, but the centerpiece is the $47 Seoul Prime Tour, featuring four house-butchered beef cuts and a boatload of banchan and sides. 106 Founders Ave., Falls Church

Sodayz, The Korean BBQ

Last month, Kiwa Korean Grill reopened under new management. Their goals, according to Instagram, are “more premium meat selections” and “new and improved side dishes”, as well as more variety. That includes both premium à la carte options and all-you-can-eat. 21438 Epicerie Plz., Sterling

The Woo Korean BBQ and Cuisine

Though the “cuisine” in the name reflects an emphasis on carefully crafted dishes such as Korean pancakes (pajeon), and soups and stews, this is still an excellent destination for savoring grilled goods. A variety of salts provide all the extra flavor you need for well-sourced cuts. 4070 Jermantown Rd., Fairfax
