The DMV is buzzing as Alex Ovechkin inches closer to breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record for most goals. Gretzky has held the NHL goal scoring record of 894 since 1999.
Now, Ovechkin is just three goals away from the magic number of 895. And local area businesses are also getting in on the action. These include Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, which debuted its Ovechkin Mini Doughnut Box this week.
When the box is opened, fans will be met with 12 doughnuts decked out in Washington Capitals decorations — including various logos, an Alex Ovechkin jersey, and red, white, and blue star sprinkles. The flavors of the dozen doughnuts will include honey bun, cinnamon vanilla, creme brûlée, and cherry cheesecake.
The special box will only be available through April 17, which is also the Capitals’ last game of the regular season.
Capitals fans and doughnut lovers can preorder the $40 mini box online. The boxes can be picked up at Astro’s Arlington location at 4001 Campbell Ave., or its DC location at 1308 G St. NW.
