Every month, Northern Virginia Magazine features a dog and cat that are available for adoption through Northern Virginia animal rescues. July’s featured pets include energetic Abigail and Vena.

Meet Abigail
Abigail made her way to Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue from a high-kill shelter in rural Louisiana. She’s around 2 and the rescue’s best guess for her breed is Catahoula mixed with something else. Abigail is young, energetic, friendly, and loves to babysit for her foster-brother puppies. She has been a loving sister to many others that have cycled through her home while she waited to be cleared for adoption. The rescue says Abigail could be a great barn dog, but she hasn’t been tested for it yet. Abigail has been in foster care since November 2022 and is eager to find her forever home. Search for her by name.

Meet Vena
Vena is a queen of a cat with a big personality. Like Abigail, she’s also with Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue, and prefers to be the only cat in her house. While it takes her some time to get comfortable and settled in, Vena is very curious and loves exploring. She prefers to play with her favorite string wand toys and is not a cuddle bug. However, she does love being pet and will happily hang out beside you. Vena purrs contentedly quite often, especially when she gets chin scratches. When she’s bored, Vena loves gazing out the window watching the world go by. Vena has been with Fancy Cats & Dogs for a year and hopes to find her forever home soon. Search for her by name.
