Fairfax County’s newest public school is now named Skyview High School. The February 12 School Board vote on the name was unanimous.
Fairfax County Public Schools purchased the 32-acre campus of the former King Abdullah Academy in Herndon last August for $150 million. The property features 355,000 square feet of modern educational spaces, large multipurpose halls, libraries, study rooms, fine arts facilities, and athletic spaces. The sale also included all of the furniture and equipment.
The naming process included community meetings, surveys, and public hearings. Students made up the majority of survey participants, Fairfax County Public Schools said.
The school will welcome up to 1,000 students for the 2026-27 school year. FCPS says limited space is available for rising 9th and 10th graders in the Centreville, Chantilly, Oakton, South Lakes, and Westfield pyramids. Student enrollment is now underway; interested families can contact the school for more information.
Led by Principal Dave Jagels, Skyview will offer the core curriculum found in other traditional FCPS high schools. The school will also provide three unique pathways: Aerospace Science; Technology; and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
