Amazon has awarded Future Engineer scholarships to two recent graduates of Osbourn Park High School in Manassas. Muhammed “Zain” Abbas and Awais Yaqoob were among the 400 students Amazon selected to receive up to $40,000 over four years.

The scholarship will fund the students’ undergraduate degrees in engineering or computer science. The award also includes paid summer internships at Amazon. This fall, Abbas is attending the University of Virginia, and Yaqoob will study at George Washington University.

Both students credit their teachers and the opportunities offered in the Prince William school system for helping set them up for success.

“From supportive teachers such as Mr. Robinson and Ms. Walters to clubs and classes that pushed me to think bigger, Prince William County Public Schools played a big part in my journey. I’m super grateful and I hope I can use this scholarship to give back and help others the same way people have helped me,” Abbas said in statement.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the school system and my teachers who were a big part of my success. The passionate teachers I had, especially in engineering, math, and other core subjects, played a huge role in motivating me. Osbourn Park High School gave me a strong foundation, both academically and personally, which shaped me into a disciplined and curious learner,” Yaqoob said.

Amazon chose the scholarship recipients based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, community involvement, work experience, future goals, and financial need.

“Education has the power to transform lives, and we are excited to help support 400 talented students on their journey into future careers,” said Alice Shobe, global director of community impact at Amazon. “Amazon Future Engineer scholarships combine educational funding with tangible work experience. We believe these scholars will help shape the future through innovation and leadership for years to come.”

Of the 400 scholarship awardees, 17 are from Virginia.
