Fairfax County’s Mobile Nature Center, the Wonder Wagon, Is on the Move

The Wonder Wagon provides nature-based educational programs to underserved areas.

By Debbie Williams June 30, 2025 at 9:57 am

Fairfax County Park Authority’s mobile nature center, dubbed the Wonder Wagon, is making summer pit stops throughout NoVA. At each stop, park employees and volunteers lead activities designed to help people connect with nature, even in urban environments.

Some of the Wonder Wagon activities include catching bugs, observing birds, and exploring the world of plants. The watershed model is intended to help residents understand their connection to nature by showing how their actions affect the water they drink and the Chesapeake watershed.

The park authority hopes the Wonder Wagon will help create memorable experiences with nature. And that these interactions will prompt residents to advocate for parks and increased environmental programs where they live.

All of the activities begin at 10 a.m. and run until noon. Check the calendar for the full schedule.

Upcoming Wonder Wagon stops include:

  • July 1: Baileys Park: 3414 Glen Carlyn Dr., Falls Church
  • July 11: Ossian Hall: 7900 Heritage Dr., Annandale
  • July 17: Muddy Hole Farm Park: 7941 Kidd St., Alexandria
  • July 22: South Lakes Drive Park: 11851 South Lakes Dr., Reston
  • August 6: Alabama Drive Park: 1100 Alabama Dr., Herndon
  • August 12: Clemyjonytri Park: 6317 Georgetown Pike, McLean
  • August 26: Tyler Park: 7216 Rice St., Falls Church

You can also request that the Wonder Wagon stop at your event or gathering.
