ABC7 changes air time for ‘Outside the Classroom’ to help parents during distance learning

The local show hosted by Arlington science teacher Ryan Miller will now air at a more convenient time for families.

Parents and kids across the region may recognize ABC7 Meteorologist Ryan Miller from watching daily weather reports, but what they may not know is that Miller is also the host of ACB7 On Your Side’s Outside the Classroom, an educational program for kids.

Miller, who is also an Arlington science teacher, hosts the interactive one-hour show that can be seen nationally through the streaming app STIRR and locally through WJLA 24/7 News channels.

And now, among distance learning taking place throughout the region for many students, ABC7 will air the show weekdays at 3 p.m. on sister cable channel WJLA 24/7 News, starting Monday, Aug. 24.

“As a public-school teacher for over 18 years, we’ve designed the show to be a resource to the community,” Miller said in a recent press release. “Using state education standards and the most innovative teaching techniques, Outside the Classroom will be there to provide help to families and students during the unique times we’re living in.”

Outside the Classroom features ABC7’s team of meteorologists, local teachers and volunteer parents to provide engaging educational and how-to videos as part of the show.

“This has been an invaluable teaching resource for parents, not only in the DMV area, but across the country,” said ABC7 News Director Cheryl Carson in the press release. “We’re so fortunate to have someone like Ryan on our team to provide this type of much-needed instructional content for families.”

WJLA 24/7 News can be seen on the following channels in the DC area: Comcast: 808 HD | 28 SD; Cox: 1008 HD | 8 SD; DirecTV: 8; Dish Network: 8; FiOS: 508 HD | 8 SD; and RCN: 608 HD | 308 SD.
