Occoquan’s Annual Duck Splash Offers Squeaky Clean Fun

Hundreds of rubber duckies will race down the river during this annual fundraiser.

An adorable fundraiser is floating this way soon. Nonprofit Visit Occoquan is hosting the 18th annual Duck Splash. The event is held June 7 at 2 p.m. during Occoquan’s summer RiverFest & Craft Show.

Participants are invited to sponsor a numbered rubber duck for $5. Then, they can head down to the town’s dock to watch it race along the Occoquan River with hundreds of others.

The first 10 adopted ducks to cross the finish line win prizes. The first-place winner receives $500. Second through fifth place receive $100 each, and sixth through 10th receive $20. Remaining proceeds benefit Visit Occoquan, which works to provide education and community services to the historic downtown area.

“We are excited to bring this year’s Occoquan Duck Splash back to RiverFest & Craft Show weekend,” said Sarah Hitchcock Burzio of Visit Occoquan. “Nearly 1,000 rubber ducks will be dropped from the Route 123 bridge and race along the Occoquan River. Then our awesome volunteer kayakers will help round them all up at the end. Kids and grownups alike love watching the duckies race.”

You can sponsor a duck online prior to the race. Or, sponsor one in person during the RiverFest & Craft Show at the Visit Occoquan booth located in front of Mamie Davis Park.
