5 activities to enjoy with the family during the holiday weekend

With the kids on winter break, enjoy some quality time with the family at one of these in-person and virtual events.

With the kids off from school the next week, you are probably looking for something to keep the whole family entertained. Whether you want to take a trip to Mount Vernon to see the holiday lights or stay at home for a special showing of The Nutcracker, here are five activities to enjoy with the family this weekend.

Manassas Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker

Starting Dec. 24, 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the holiday weekend with a showing of The Nutcracker, performed by the Manassas Ballet Theatre. Cuddle up on the couch as you enter the world of Clara, which is full mice, dancing dolls and the nutcracker prince. The performance will be available for a 30-day streaming period. // $25

Kids Pizza Making Classes

Saturday, noon-1 p.m.
Let your kids put on the chef hat for an afternoon of pizza making. Give them the full hands-on experience, full of kneading dough, spreading sauce and cooking in the wood-burning oven. Each ticket comes with a pizza making kit and beverage. // Wild Wood Pizza: 1600 Village Market Blvd., Suite 120, Leesburg; $10

Winter Glow

Saturday & Sunday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Make the first weekend of winter break special with a visit to Mount Vernon. The 18th-century manor will be covered in holiday lights and the grounds will be full of holiday music. Guests can also chat with soldiers and see how goods were made over 200 years ago. // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, $25-$45

PJ’s & Pancakes

Sunday, 9 a.m.-noon
After your holiday celebrations, enjoy a Sunday morning feast. Head over to Henway Hard Cider for a morning full of pancakes, bacon, mixed fruit and yogurt parfaits. Reservations are recommended. // Henway Hard Cider: 18780 Foggy Bottom Road, Bluemont; $10

5th Annual Leesburg Nativity Tour

Through Dec. 30
Take a stroll around Leesburg for its annual Nativity Tour. Stop by various shops and restaurants to check out their unique nativities. If you visit all of the locations on the tour, you can pick up a free treat from Trinity House Cafe. // Various locations throughout Leesburg; free
