7 Halloween-themed weekend events for the entire family

From costume parades to scavenger hunts, bring the family along to one of these Halloween events for a spooky good time.

If your family has decided not to participate in trick-or-treating this year, there are still plenty of options to celebrate the holiday. Whether you want to decorate some delicious treats or show off your costume at a parade, here are seven family-friendly Halloween events to bring your bunch to this weekend.

Seymoore’s Adventures: Hazel & The Magic Pumpkin

Thursday, 10:30-11:30 a.m. 
Start your morning with an adventure around Claude Moore Recreation Center. Join Seymoore the owl and Haxel the vole on their journey to find the magic pumpkin. Follow the clues around the route to see what the magic pumpkin will bring. // Claude Moore Recreation Center: 46105 Loudoun Park Lane, Sterling; $15

Haunt the Town! Occoquan Halloween Parade and Costume Contest

Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon
Strut your stuff and show off your Halloween costumes at Occoquan’s socially distanced costume parade and contest. Costumes will be judged in the categories of cutest, scariest, funniest, most original and family/group. Participants must register in order to participate. // The Town of Occoquan: 125 Mill St., Occoquan; free

Parent & Me: Halloween Cupcakes

Sunday, 11-11:45 a.m.
Indulge your sweet tooth with scrumptious Halloween Cupcakes. Spend the morning making all kinds of pumpkin, monster and ghost treats with your little one. This workshop is for parents and children ages 3 to 7. // Cake Time: 4300 Chantilly Shopping Center, Suite 1H, Chantilly; $35

Spooky Sprinkles Sugar Cookie Decorating Class!

Saturday, 1-2:30 p.m.
Have a cookie day with the family by making some spooky treats. This beginners class will provide all of the materials and teach participants cookie facts and decorating techniques. Scarecrows & Bats at Fred Nats

Saturday, 5-7:30 p.m.
Enjoy a night under the stars at the Fredericksburg Nationals’ stadium. Start off the night with an I Spy game in the field, take pictures with the mascots, then finish the evening with a screening of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The event is limited to the first 1,000 people, with the first 600 children receiving treat bags. Bike Scavenger Hunt – Prizes!

Sunday-Oct. 31, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Get outside and explore Falls Church during this special scavenger hunt. Just grab your bike and hit the road to search for seven locations around the city. Plus, if you complete the scavenger hunt while wearing a costume, you have the chance to receive $50 in store credit at Conte’s Bike Shop. // Conte’s Bike Shop: 1118 W. Broad St., Falls Church; free

Princess & Superhero Halloween Event

Sunday, 2:30-4 p.m.
Enjoy a socially distanced Halloween celebration with some of your child’s favorite characters. Spend the afternoon dancing to the Monster Mash, walking in the costume parade and meeting Elsa, Anna, Spiderman and Captain America. // Fort Ward: 4301 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria; $10-$12
