By Michele Kettner September 9, 2020 at 12:46 pm

With many children returning to school this week, you might find it difficult to fit in some quality family time. Between virtual learning, homework and extracurricular activities, it may seem like there is not enough time in the day. This weekend, take a break and enjoy some much needed family time by attending one of these eight family-friendly events.

Creatures of the Night 2

Thursday, 7-9 p.m.
Spend the evening outdoors learning about the animals that go bump in the night. Walk through the fields and woods to observe nocturnal animals in their natural habitat; including everything from cicadas and crickets to beavers and reptiles. Registration is required. // The Clifton Institute: 6712 Blantyre Road, Warrenton; $5

Drive Thru Drama

Friday through Sunday, 4-7 p.m.
Skip the drive-in movie this weekend and head to the Drive Thru theater instead. The Alden will be performing a socially distant rendering of From the Ash Baxter Files: The Search for the Stolen Spyglass. Viewers will drive up to each scene as they watch the story unfold from the safety of their cars. // McLean Community Center: 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean; $15-$20

Fire Pit Fridays

Friday, 5-9 p.m.
Stop by the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club for a night around the fire. Enjoy delicious food and beverages and cornhole as you listen to live music from local bands and musicians. // Shenandoah Valley Golf Club: 134 Golf Club Circle, Front Royal; free

Space Jam Movie Night at Dixon Park

Friday, 6:30-9 p.m.
Take your family to see the classic 90s film Space Jam. Munch on delicious snacks from local food trucks as you watch Michael Jordan and the Toon Squad take on the Monstars. Participants will also be able to complete the 2020 Census at the event.  // 1300 Dixon St., Fredericksburg; free

Movies Under the Stars

Friday, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Enjoy a night under the stars at the Purcellville Parks and Recreation’s first of three outdoor movies. Pack up a blanket, lawn chairs and snacks for a family showing of Disney’s Onward. Reservations are required. // Fireman’s Field: 250 S. Nursery Ave., Purcellville; free

1st Annual Watermelon Park Car Show

Other activities include a dunking booth, tubing and live entertainment. // Watermelon Park Campground: 3322 Locke’s Mill Road, Berryville; free

Super Hero 5K

Sunday, 6-11:30 a.m.
