November events for the senior set

Thanksgiving celebrations, genealogy talks and holiday treat tastings are just some of the exciting events happening this month.

Alexandria

Senior Services Center of Alexandria is hosting professional genealogist Sharon Hodges for their Speaker Series Genealogy: Tracing Your Family Roots on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 10a.m.-noon at the Beatley Central Library. Participants will learn how to start digging into their family past and can creating their own pedigree chart. A light breakfast will be served.

Arlington

Story Time for the ages
On Nov. 16 at 10:45 a.m., get in on the last of a series of Story Time programs at Arlington Mill Community Center kids (ages 1-5) and seniors get together to tell stories, sing songs and play music. The children come from Project Family, Early Head-start and Pint-Sized Playtime programs also held at the community center.

Sweets and Treats
The Virginia Cooperative Extension heads to the Langston-Brown Senior Center on Nov. 13 from 11 a.m.-noon, and is offering up healthful dessert and beverage ideas that you can sample on site.

Fairfax

Caregivers Conference
The Northern Virginia Dementia Care Consortium hosts its annual Caregivers Conference, Creating Moments of Joy on Friday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the Korean Central Presbyterian Church, in Centreville.

Loudoun

A Bounty of Thanksgiving Celebrations
Loudoun senior centers are all hosting Thanksgiving celebrations. The Carver Center hosts on Nov. 14 from noon-1:45 p.m., Cascades Center on Nov. 16 at noon, Dulles South Center on Nov. 16 at noon, and Senior Center of Leesburg on Nov. 16 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Senior Travels
Departing from the different senior centers, three theater trips will bring seniors to local theater houses and one trip has seniors taking in museums. On Nov. 12, a bus will take participants to see An Act of God at Signature Theatre; Nov. 17, is a trip to see On Golden Pond at Fredericksburg’s Riverside Dinner Theatre; Nov. 18 is a trip to Franklin Park to catch An Evening with Buddy Holly; and then on Nov. 27 participants will head to D.C. for a day of exploring the Smitshonian Art and Portrait Gallery, the International Spy Museum and Madame Tussauds.

Prince William

Thanksgiving Dinner in Manassas
Gobble up turkey early as Manassas Senior Center, in partnership with Verizon, host their annual Thanksgiving celebration on Nov. 16 at noon. There will, of course, be food as well as entertainment and door prizes. A Thanksgiving celebration will take place at the Woodbridge Senior Center on Nov. 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Glamour Update
Image consultant Jan Lawlor will be at the Manassas Senior Center on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m., giving a demonstration on makeup and skincare routines and products.

Genealogy Talk
Librarian Don Wilson is offering up his genealogy expertise on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Manassas Senior Center.

Artisanal Activities
At the Woodbridge Senior Center you have two chances to get the creative juices flowing. On Nov. 14 at 12:30 p.m., for $5 you can make fall arrangements. And on Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m., for $5 you can make and take home a marble mug.
