In an update Wednesday afternoon, Fairfax County police said a man driving a 2014 Cadillac XTS4 westbound on Burke Centre Parkway struck the 2023 Kia Forte the teens were in, killing the driver who had been trying to exit the shopping center’s parking lot.
The crash in the 5700 block of Burke Centre Parkway occurred just after 9 p.m.
The Kia Forte burst into flames, and bystanders tried to pull the teens from the vehicle, NBC4 reported.
The driver of the Cadillac also went to the hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
Police cannot release the name of the teen who died unless the teen’s parents give consent.
They are asking people who saw the crash to call 703-280-0543 or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
The fatal crash is the eighth this year in Fairfax County.
Burke Centre Parkway was closed for six hours as police investigated, according to WTOP.
