After unconfirmed reports that the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman would be shooting in Alexandria over the summer, we can now officially say that Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) is in NoVA. A press release from Gov. Ralph Northam’s office confirmed that production of Wonder Woman 1984 began on Wednesday and will film in Alexandria and Washington, D.C., for several weeks.
“We are delighted to welcome the Wonder Woman team to Virginia,” says Northam in the press release. “We are confident that this trailblazing project will find a perfect home in Alexandria, and look forward to the super impact it will have on our economy and the continued growth of Virginia’s lucrative production industry.”
Previous reports said that Alexandria’s Landmark Mall was one of the main locations being eyed for shoot, and one of the first images from production show that to likely be the case. SPOILER ALERT: In the photo, Chris Pine, whose character Steve Trevor died in the first movie, is seen looking a little bewildered in a mall.
The Virginia Film Office was unable to confirm specifics on the production schedule, but if you still have interest in trying to make your big screen debut in Wonder Woman 1984, you can check facebook.com/marinellavirginia for possible casting announcements.
Otherwise, keep an eye out to see if you and Gadot are eating at the same restaurant. Some people have already snapped pictures of them around the area using the hashtags #WonderWoman1984 and #WW1984.
Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gadot, Pine, Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal and is directed by Patty Jenkins. It is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 1, 2019.
