If you’re in search of some fresh entertainment, turn your attention to these new books, TV, music, and more from Northern Virginians. You’ll find everything from captivating nonfiction to hilarious comedy to a new song that you’ll be humming along to all day.  

Books

Not Your Crush’s Cauldron by April Asher

In book three of this NoVA author’s Supernatural Singles romance series, timid witch Olive Maxwell moves in with a rebellious guardian angel. Out February 13.

Get Me Carlucci by Kristin Carlucci Weed and Frank C. Carlucci III

McLean’s Kristin Carlucci Weed recounts the life and career of her late father, former Secretary of Defense Frank C. Carlucci III.

Domestic Darkness by Julie Farnam

This Arlington author, who was the assistant director of intelligence for the U.S. Capitol Police during the January 6, 2021, attack, shares an insider’s perspective on the event and extremism.

The Weekend Retreat by Tara Laskowski

In this thriller from a NoVA author, a wealthy family’s annual gathering at a vineyard turns dark when old tensions resurface.

The Garretts of Columbia by David Nicholson

A Vienna author presents “family history as American history” with this multigenerational story of a Black family’s life in South Carolina, focusing on his great-grandparents.

Ruthless

In this action thriller, Alexandria native Dermot Mulroney plays a grieving father and wrestling coach who goes after the human trafficking operation that kidnapped his student.

TV

Grimsburg

Christina Hendricks and Patton Oswalt, both with NoVA ties, voice characters in this new adult cartoon on FOX about a detective who returns to his hometown to solve a complex crime.

Young Sheldon Season 7

The final season of this comedic spinoff of The Big Bang Theory premieres February 15 on CBS. See Arlington’s Iain Armitage in the leading role.

Music

“Wind the Clock” by Brian K & The Parkway

Catch the new single from this NoVA-based rock band. The music takes inspiration from ’70s rockers, including Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. The band’s full-length album will be released on March 29.

Orquídeas by Kali Uchis

Alexandria-born pop and R&B musician Kali Uchis released a full-length, Spanish-language album on January 12, with tracks like single “Muñekita.” This is her fourth studio album.
