Are you looking to dive into a new book this Spring? Or maybe hoping to shake up the playlist for your morning commute? NoVA’s creatives have your answer, with these brand new books, music, and television to explore.

Book

The Seed by Jeff Shiring

A raging pandemic, covert operations, and clashing political powers: The end of the world is afoot in this new dystopian novel, the first installment in the NoVA author’s End of Times Chronicles. Out May 2.

Book

Blow Up by Ellen Crosby

When a homeless man is murdered after revealing dark secrets about a Supreme Court justice, photojournalist Sophie Medina is left scrambling to find evidence to back up his story. This is the third book in the Oak Hill author’s Sophie Medina Mysteries. Out May 2.

Music

“Full-Handed” by Jon Tyler Wiley and His Virginia Choir

In their most recent single, these local musicians come together with energetic instrumentals and smooth vocals to form a rhythmic, catchy Americana anthem. This is the group’s second single of 2023, following “The Ending of the End.”

Book

Bea and the New Deal Horse by L.M. Elliott

This new historical fiction novel, aimed at young readers, takes place during the Great Depression at a struggling Virginia horse farm. The protagonist, Bea, attempts to train an unruly horse for competitions, hoping to save the farm and find a home for herself and her sister.

TV Show

Frog and Toad

You may remember Frog and Toad from Arnold Lobel’s children’s books of the same name, published in the 1970s. Now get to know the beloved amphibian duo in a whole new form with this animated series on Apple TV+, featuring Fairfax native Aparna Nancherla as a voice actor.
