True crime aficionados have something to look forward to in quarantine this month: ABC’s newest show, The Genetic Detective hits screens on Tuesday, May 26 (originally set for May 19) with its series premiere, from 10 to 11 p.m.
The show stars genetic genealogist CeCe Moore solving cold cases with Parabon NanoLabs, a DNA technology company based in Reston. Moore serves as the chief genetic genealogist at the company.
In the show, Moore helps uncover criminal suspects’ identities through crime scene DNA, research and groundbreaking technology. Her first cold case, the double homicide of Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg, will be highlighted in the series premiere.
For the past decade, Moore, who is self-trained in genetic genealogy, has used genetic data with genealogical records to help adoptees find their birth parents, and to solve family mysteries. Since 2018, she has since used her research to help solve crimes, and, so far, has helped to identify more than 100 violent criminal suspects.
