From: Grew up in Prince William County; Currently lives and works as a high school guidance counselor in Fairfax County

The Story: “It’s about a girl, Ashlyn, who just spent a year at boarding school as punishment,” says June. “When she’s about to ask to return home for her senior year, she finds out her father is going to jail, her mother is going to rehab and she’s being sent to work at a wilderness retreat camp with her estranged cousin.”
NoVA Neighborhoods: “The main character is from Arlington. She’s being sent to eastern Pennsylvania, but I patterned it after Airlie Center in Warrenton for the wilderness retreat camp, and combined it with my experiences in fifth grade going to Hemloch Regional Overlook Park in Clifton.”

Harper Collins, $13, available May 21
