Congressional Cemetery‘s annual Soul Strolls is back for another year of lantern-lit storytelling. The experience allows visitors to hear stories of the cemetery’s buried residents and explore the grounds after dark. It runs on various evenings from October 16 to 31.
This year’s theme, “Becoming America,” commemorates America’s 250 birthday. It explores how those interred at the cemetery influenced the country’s founding ideals on issues such as freedom, equality, democracy, and what it means to be American. Stories are brought to life through immersive performances by costumed interpreters.
The experience takes place outdoors and includes a guided, lantern-lit tour through the cemetery. Before and after the tour, visitors can enjoy live music, food, and drinks. Merchandise is also available for purchase. Guests are encouraged to arrive in costume.
Soul Strolls will take place on October 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31. Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Children 4 and under can attend for free with a ticketed adult. VIP tickets are $80 and include a smaller tour group, a swag bag, a complimentary drink, and an additional performance.
