The plan includes 5 million square feet of new or renovated space.

President Donald Trump unveiled his plan Wednesday to overhaul Dulles International Airport. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump showed renderings of the more than $22 billion plan.

Trump said that concourses C and D will be replaced. The main terminal will be redesigned by architect Eero Saarinen, but Trumps says the changes will preserve the look of “the iconic original terminal,” NBC4 reported.

In a press release, United Airlines said the plan includes more than 5 million square feet of new or renovated space. It includes a renovated main terminal and new and upgraded boarding areas and ticketing facilities. A new train service will connect the airport and retire Dulles’ mobile “people movers.”

According to United, the plan also includes new parking facilities, additional gates, a walkable path to a new U.S. Customs facility, improved baggage handling systems, and additional concessions and airport lounges.

“The project will transform the airport over the next decade into a modern, world-class gateway reflecting the importance and global reach of the nation’s capital and enhancing the experience for millions of travelers,” United says. The airlines is working with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and the U.S. Department of Transportation on the “landmark transformation” that has a “capital investment program of more than $20 billion.”

United said the transformation will occur in phases over several years. MWAA will work with airlines serving Dulles to finance much of the project through municipal bonds.

“This new construction effort builds upon the multiyear Dulles Master Plan, developed in consultation with our airline partners, that will modernize Washington’s main international airport,” MWAA President and CEO Jack Potter said in a release. “We are grateful for the Trump administration’s interest in accelerating the pace and scope of our plans, and we look forward to building new facilities that will be a source of pride for our nation.”
