Scavenger hunts are taking on a whole new meaning in Reston. Public Art Reston launched its first Public Art Scavenger Hunt this summer and is offering prizes to those who visit and share photos with a variety of artworks throughout the community. The activity is open until August 17.
To participate, get a scavenger card. They’re available online at Public Art Reston’s website or at the Reston Regional Library, Reston Museum, Reston Art Gallery, and the Reston Community Center.
The card includes a variety of art installations with QR codes that will show their locations. These include cool Reston spots like the statue of Robert E. Simon, a painted book sculpture, and a wooden horse statue.
Take a selfie with each of the artworks and share the pictures on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #PublicArtReston. When you’ve checked all the boxes, email a picture of the completed card to [email protected] for a chance to win. (Be sure to include your social media name.)
All participants who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a small prize. Five winners will get a $500 Visa or MasterCard gift card.
Board chair Maggie Parker told FFXNow that Public Art Reston created the scavenger hunt as a way to raise awareness of the nonprofit’s artwork collection.
“We thought summer was the perfect time to encourage friends and family to explore the Reston community and learn about the art that is all around them,” Parker told FFXNow. “This is the inaugural event, but [we] hope it becomes a summer tradition.”
The entry deadline for the scavenger hunt is August 17, and the winners will be announced on August 20.
