Avelo Airlines Cancels Route Out of Dulles

The airline has canceled flights to one North Carolina destination.

Budget carrier Avelo Airlines has canceled its route from Dulles International Airport to Concord‑Padgett Regional Airport near Charlotte, North Carolina. Avelo had announced the new route in March.

The airline had planned to add the nonstop flights from Dulles to Charlotte this month. They were scheduled to take about 1 hour and 50 minutes. But Avelo said due to low demand and poor initial bookings, the route was canceled before it began, WTOP reported.

However, the airline still plans to operate nonstop flights from Dulles to Wilmington, North Carolina. The twice weekly flights, which last about 1 hour and 20 minutes, depart on Mondays and Fridays. Avelo is the only carrier offering nonstop service between Dulles and Wilmington on a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Avelo has been operating flights in and out of Dulles since last July. The Houston-based airline currently operates a fleet of 20 aircraft flying to 56 destinations in the United States, Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic. Its recent expansion includes service to the Bahamas out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
