Furniture and home retailer At Home filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 16. As part of the filing, the company announced it will be closing 26 stores, including two in Northern Virginia.
Stores at 8300 Sudley Rd. in Manassas and 19460 Compass Creek Pkwy. in Leesburg are among the locations listed for closure by September 30.
The Texas-based chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as a result of “broader economic and retail-specific market pressures,” court documents say. A news release stated that, as part of the bankruptcy filing, company ownership will be transferred to a group of investment firms.
“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with our lenders, which represents a critical and positive advancement of our work to best position At Home for the future,” the company’s CEO Brad Weston said in the release. “Over the past several months, we’ve taken deliberate steps to strengthen the foundation of our business — sharpening our focus, elevating our customer value proposition, and driving operational discipline. These efforts are aimed at delivering sustained sales growth, optimizing our inventory management, improving efficiency, and enhancing overall profitability.”
The announcement follows news of other big-box stores closing Northern Virginia locations, including Party City, Kohls, and Joann.
