4 Mother’s Day Events Where You Can Make Memories with Mom

This Mother’s Day, go beyond brunch — and spend quality time with Mom at one of these Northern Virginia events.

By Debbie Williams May 5, 2025 at 12:21 pm

Mother’s Day is coming up on May 11. This year, take Mom out for a fun afternoon at one of these four Mother’s Day events happening in Northern Virginia.

Flower Power

May 8, 7–9 p.m.

Who doesn’t love flowers? Mom can get her creative juices flowing while sipping on local wine from Morais Vineyards at this hands-on floral workshop. All project materials are provided, and tickets include your choice of a bottle of Morais’ Chardonel, Merlot, or Rosa Doce. You’ll leave with one-of-a-kind floral arrangements — and sweet memories of your time spent making them together. Aroma Wine Tasting: 9249 Center St., Manassas, $48

Beauty at the Ballet

May 9–11

If your mother loves classical music and dance, take her to Manassas Ballet Theatre’s rendition of The Sleeping Beauty. In this timeless classic, dancers depict Princess Aurora’s triumph over an evil curse when she’s awakened by true love’s kiss. The performance is accompanied by talented musicians in the theatre company’s orchestra. Hylton Performing Arts Center: 10960 George Mason Cir., Manassas, hylton.calendar.gmu.edu, $45–$75

Sip, Learn, and Play

May 11, 1–3 p.m.

This event includes a traditional British tea, an art lesson, and bingo games — adding up to a Mother’s Day trifecta of fun. Held in Green Spring Gardens’ historic house, participants will learn about works by famed artists that depict motherhood, play bingo (with prizes!), sip tea, and savor finger sandwiches, pastries, and scones. Afterward, take Mom on a stroll through Green Spring’s impressive grounds featuring demonstration gardens, a greenhouse, a plant shop, and more. Green Spring Gardens: 4603 Green Spring Rd., Alexandria, $48

Swifties and Clothing Swaps

May 11, noon–6 p.m.

We all know that moms are superheroes, so celebrate her at this free festival where she can meet “Wonder Woman.” Plus, she can release her inner pop star at the Taylor Swift look-alike contest, while little ones can keep busy with moon bounces, face painting, and crafting activities. The event also features live music, “Mommy and Me” makeovers, and a moms-only clothing swap. Take advantage of multiple onsite food and drink options to buy Mom a beer (or two!) and treat her to lunch. Shipgarten: 7581 Colshire Dr., McLean, free
