Beauty at the Ballet

May 9–11

If your mother loves classical music and dance, take her to Manassas Ballet Theatre’s rendition of The Sleeping Beauty. In this timeless classic, dancers depict Princess Aurora’s triumph over an evil curse when she’s awakened by true love’s kiss. The performance is accompanied by talented musicians in the theatre company’s orchestra. Hylton Performing Arts Center: 10960 George Mason Cir., Manassas, hylton.calendar.gmu.edu, $45–$75

Sip, Learn, and Play

May 11, 1–3 p.m.

This event includes a traditional British tea, an art lesson, and bingo games — adding up to a Mother’s Day trifecta of fun. Held in Green Spring Gardens’ historic house, participants will learn about works by famed artists that depict motherhood, play bingo (with prizes!), sip tea, and savor finger sandwiches, pastries, and scones. Afterward, take Mom on a stroll through Green Spring’s impressive grounds featuring demonstration gardens, a greenhouse, a plant shop, and more. The event also features live music, “Mommy and Me” makeovers, and a moms-only clothing swap. Take advantage of multiple onsite food and drink options to buy Mom a beer (or two!) and treat her to lunch. Shipgarten: 7581 Colshire Dr., McLean, free
