Spring break is fast approaching, and if you’re planning on sticking around Northern Virginia, there are plenty of things to do. Go on an egg hunt, attend an event to learn about animals, or try your hand at making pizza.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria’s Spring Break Camp
March 23 to 27 and March 30 to April 3, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Families with animal lovers will want to sign up for this camp, which offers spring break camps for children in grades two through five. Students are welcome to sign up for the entire week or days for the topics that most interest them. Topics include animal services, animal care, community and adoptions, and more. 4101 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, $100 per day or $400 per week
Spring Egg Hunt at Potomac Overlook
March 28 to April 5, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Potomac Overlook Regional Park is hosting a spring break egg hunt that includes a scavenger hunt. Pick up a sheet to explore the park and check off all the eggs you find. If you find every item on your list, return to the Nature Center for a prize. No advance registration is required. 2845 Marcey Rd., Arlington, $8 per child
Nature Thursdays at George Mason University
April 2, 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m
On the first Thursday of every month, spend the morning with Gunston educators for a themed story time, nature hike, and guided activity. Preschoolers will be able to learn about respect for the environment while working on their gross and fine motor skills, too. Spring Break at the Farm
April 2, 2 p.m.
In this program at Frying Pan Farm Park for those ages 8 and older, attendees can learn about how farming is the backbone of America. Historic animal breeds that have lived in the U.S. will be discussed, and their modern descendants will be participating in a meet and greet at the end of the program. 2709 West Ox Rd., Herndon, $10
See Dog Man: The Musical
April 3 and 4
This musical based on the series by Dav Pilkey follows the adventures of a creature with the head of a dog and the body of a policeman. The Dog Man loves to both fight crime and chew furniture, all while trying to be on his best behavior. Remember the Ladies Family Day at Mount Vernon
April 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Learn all about our country’s Founding Mothers during this event to celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. There will be hands-on activities, character interpretations, and discussions about the lives of the women who lived at Mount Vernon. Visitors can learn how colonial clothing was made, hear live music from the Revolution, and meet Martha Washington herself. 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon, $30 for ages 12+, $16 for ages 6 to 11, free for children 5 and under
Easter Bunny Kids and Family Festival
April 5, noon to 6 p.m.
Shipgarten is hosting an Easter extravaganza with games, treats and photos with the Easter bunny. Easter egg hunts will run all afternoon until they run out (the event is bring your own basket). Pizza Decorating at Davio’s
Sundays and Mondays, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday and Monday evenings, budding young cooks can learn how to make authentic pizza. In addition to a Davio’s apron, children get pizza dough, tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. 1902 Reston Metro Plz., Reston, $25 per child
