5 Cozy Reading Spots in NoVA and DC

Settle in and grab a book at one of these nearby destinations.

When the weather outside is frightful, a cozy reading spot can be delightful. If you need a change of reading scenery, grab your book and try one of these five locations.

Folger Shakespeare Library

This Washington, DC, spot is worth the trip for bibliophiles. You can see books and manuscripts from the world’s largest Shakespeare collection then grab a snack or coffee from the new Quill & Crumb cafe and settle in for a day of reading in the serene space. 201 E. Capitol St. SE, Washington, DC

Busboys and Poets

This longtime DC-area hot spot is a combination of a bar, coffee shop, restaurant, and bookstore. If you’re looking for something new to read, peruse the shelves, then find a space at the bar to dive into the pages. It’s also a great place to meet fellow poets, writers, and artists, especially during one of the store’s several daily poetry and art events. Multiple area locations

Cervantes Coffee Roasters

Cervantes stands out from the coffee shop crowd with its cozy, quiet back room. Visitors can step away from the counter to a separate space outfitted with cozy chairs, cafe tables, and a view of the coffee roasting equipment. 7644 Fullerton Rd., Springfield

Green Spring Gardens

When the weather finally warms up, the grounds at Green Springs features several benches and a gazebo where you can settle in for a few hours to read in the company of flora and fauna. 4603 Green Spring Rd., Alexandria

Caboose Brewing

If a brewery is more your speed, give Caboose a try. The Fairfax location has three levels, so you’re sure to find a comfortable spot to read while you enjoy a brew or two. 2918 Eskridge Rd., Fairfax; 520 Mill St. NE, Vienna
