A Lamborghini and a Cybertruck Race on Route 7 in Tysons

A video of the incident is gaining traction on social media.

By Maggie Roth October 29, 2024 at 4:10 pm

Route 7 in Tysons was the site of a high-speed race between a Lamborghini and a Cybertruck, a video on the social media site X shows.

The video, originally posted by X user Am_Blujay on Monday morning, shows a blue Lamborghini move from Westfield Center Drive to Leesburg Pike, where a Cybertruck was waiting at the crosswalk. Crowds of pedestrians can be seen in the video on the sidewalk and in the right lane of Leesburg Pike, with phones poised to record the event.

The two vehicles took off in a race, with the Cybertruck pulling ahead of the Lamborghini. Both vehicles appeared to stop when they approached stopped traffic on the road. The race lasted approximately five seconds.

X user and podcast host Mario Nawfal posted the video as well, and Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk retweeted it early Tuesday morning. “Cybertruck can beat a Porsche 911 while towing a Porsche 911,” Musk said. This is seemingly in reference to a video Tesla posted recently, depicting a race between a Cybertruck and a Porsche.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Nawfal’s post — originally posted at 2:30 a.m. — had nearly 75 million views

Racing on roadways is illegal in Virginia, and street takeovers and high-speed races such as this one have been a topic of discussion for Fairfax County Police recently. This summer, FCPS hosted a Crime Prevention Initiative that specifically targeted street takeovers “that exhibit reckless and unsafe behavior.”
