Metallica to Play at Virginia Tech for First Time Ever

The heavy metal band also will play in Landover, Maryland.

Metallica added Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium to the venues where the iconic heavy metal band plans to play in 2025 as it extends its M72 World Tour for a third year.

The May 7 stop at the stadium — where you always hear “Enter Sandman” as the Hokies enter the stadium — is Metallica’s first time in Blacksburg.

The band has strong ties to Virginia. Just a few weeks ago, Virginia Tech started selling co-branded Metallica merchandise.

Earlier this year, the Oakton High School marching band also won $15,000 in equipment from the band for its video that played a medley of Metallica songs including For Whom the Bell Tolls, Turn the Page, and The Memory Remains.

Last year, Metallica acquired a majority interest in Furnace Record Pressing in Fairfax County.

In May 2025, Metallica also plays closer to NoVA in Maryland’s suburbs. “The tour will also make a highly anticipated stop in Landover, Maryland when they play Northwest Stadium on May 28,” a band news release said.

For those in Metallica’s fan club, sales start at 10 a.m. on September 23. Citi cardmembers can buy tickets September 24.

Sales to current Virginia Tech students start at 10 a.m. on September 25 (with a two-ticket limit) and to Hokie Club members at 10 a.m. on September 26.

Tickets go on sale for the concerts at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 27. There will be a four-ticket limit.

The 2025 North American tour with 21 shows begins in April and runs through June. In cities where there are two shows, the set will be different, the band said.

At both the Virginia and Maryland shows, Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies will open for the band.
