Yalla Pita, a Palestinian Jordanian food truck that rolled into Vienna earlier this year, will soon take on a restaurant, the owners announced on social media. While it makes the transition, the truck will close after Saturday, May 25.
“Yalla Pita has grown up in no time, we are opening our first restaurant soon,” a Facebook post from the restaurant said. “We can’t thank you enough for the love and support you showed us during the past few months, it was the secret recipe behind having our dream come true!”
It has not yet been decided whether the truck will reopen in the future, according to owner Saleh Kishta.
While no specific location has been announced, the new location won’t be far from where the truck is currently stationed, the post says. At present, it parks at a Shell gas station on Cedar Lane in Vienna, near Thoreau Middle School.
The new store will allow the operation to increase inventory and keep food items from selling out quickly, as they sometimes do at the truck, according to Kishta.
Yalla Pita’s current menu features wraps, kebabs, falafel, and shawarma — and all of it is halal. After visiting the truck in March, our critic recommended The Challenger, a vegetarian wrap with fried eggplant and cauliflower, fries, pickles, and a boiled egg. She also highlighted the baba ghanoush and the chicken shawarma wrap.
The new restaurant will feature some new menu items, according to the Facebook post, but some old favorites will remain. Namely, the owners made sure to assure diners that the pistachio ice cream will remain available on the new menu.
