Bostan
At this Uyghur restaurant in Arlington (with a second location that opened last year in Herndon), you can find “juicy, hot-from-the-coals” kebabs — and sides that make them “truly special.” A few of their recommendations include saozi, flat noodles in a tart broth; and rangpiza, a cold noodle dish with chili oil. 3911 Langston Blvd., Arlington; 1141 Elden St., Ste. 104, Herndon
Ellie Bird
This celebrated spot in Falls Church comes from hometown couple Yuan and Carey Tang, who are also behind the DC’s acclaimed Rooster & Owl. Named for their middle daughter, it’s No. 5 on our 2023 Best Restaurants list, and is known for the Vietnamese French onion soup, cacio elote, and the delicious Rachel’s Chocolate Cake, our critic says. It’s also gaining attention for its brunch, which is a favorite of Yuan, the chef. 125 Founders Ave., Falls Church
Mama Chang
This Chinese restaurant that the New York Times critics have on their list is also on our 2023 Best Restaurants list. Inspired by the home cooking in chef-restaurateur Peter Chang’s native province of Hubei, China, this spot pays tribute to his mother and his wife and business partner, Lisa Chang. The Chang family owns 16 other restaurants in the area. Our critic recommends the lychee pepper chicken, green beans with pickled cabbage, and eggplant in garlic sauce while you enjoy the festive atmosphere. 3251 Blenheim Blvd., Ste. 101, Fairfax
