Two men — a 44-year-old from Leesburg and a 20-year-old from DC — are in police custody after separate carjackings that ended in Tysons Monday.
The first crime that police said involved Joseph C. Daniel, 44, of Leesburg, started with a police chase in Ashburn that ended in Tysons. Just before 2 p.m., a citizen reported what was believed to be an abduction in progress, the sheriff’s office initially said.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel was behind the wheel of a 2005 Hummer H2 that had been stolen in Chantilly in March and then repainted.
Deputies chased him northbound on the Loudoun County Parkway. Daniel then ended up on the Capital Beltway and then stopped at Chain Bridge Road and Flint Hall Road at 2:45 p.m., where he tried to carjack another driver before being taken into custody by Fairfax County police and Virginia State Police. During the chase, he struck multiple vehicles, authorities said.

Fairfax County police arrested him for carjacking; felony disregard of police command to stop; felony hit and run; driving without a license; and reckless driving.
In Loudoun County, he was wanted on warrants for two counts of possession of stolen property; possession of burglary tools; fleeing and eluding; driving without a license; and three probation violations.
In the other carjacking, Fairfax County police said Mecca Lee-Bey, 20, of DC, was seen stealing $2,500 in merchandise in Tysons. Detectives from the Tysons Urban Team were called around 4:32 p.m.
Police said he tried to get away in a 2013 Kia Optima driven by a teenage victim, but the alarmed teen drove off with Lee-Bey hanging onto the vehicle’s door. After dragging him a short distance, the teen got out of the car and Lee-Bey took off in it, only to lose control of it while trying to make a U-turn on Leesburg Pike.
He crashed the car into a gas pump in the 8100 block of Leesburg Pike, ran into a gas station, and ended up getting arrested there, police said. Lee-Bey was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and then charged with carjacking and grand larceny.
