Keep your skills on target this fall and winter at an indoor archery facility. These centers are open to varying ages and ability, so seasoned archers and inexperienced bowmen can shoot at their own speeds.
From open ranges to equipment pro shops, these facilities offer everything you need to hit the bullseye.
Bull Run Shooting Center
This Centreville archery facility has 18 shooting lanes. Four people fit in one lane, so bring your friends and family for an afternoon of fun. You will have to bring your own equipment, but the range is open to the public. You can also sign up for archery instruction. 7700 Bull Run Dr., Centreville; from March 8–Nov. 11: open noon–8 p.m. Wednesday–Friday, noon–5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday; open range: $6 per lane per hour, $2 for each additional shooter
Cub Run Archers
You can spend all day practicing at this indoor range. This facility offers targets that are 10 to 60 yards. Newbies can take an Archery 101 class to learn the basics, and skilled archers can join the indoor archery league. Note: you must be a member of the Arlington-Fairfax chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America to use the range independently. Double X Archery
This facility opened in July and is Loudoun County’s only indoor archery range. Double X Archery is open to the public and has 21 lanes with targets ranging from 15 to 30 yards. The facility also offers wheeled targets, equipment for rent or purchase, and bow tuning services at the archery retail shop. 500 E. Market St., Leesburg, noon–4 p.m. Tuesday, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Wednesday–Friday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; open range: $20 per person, per hour
Invicta Sports
Located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, this facility offers classes for both kids and adults to learn how to shoot. Take a beginner class to learn the basics. No experience is necessary, and equipment is provided for all ages. Or try the explore archery program for a more interactive and competitive class. Invicta Sports also offers a five-day fencing and archery program. 9121 Gaither Rd., Ste. Nova Fencing and Archery Club
This 20,000-square-foot center offers wall targets, a pro shop, and an equipment repair shop. You can shoot independently on the open range, but you must be a member of the Nova Archery Club and USA Archery and be approved by a coach. Guest passes are available. Amateur shooters can take a 1.5-hour introductory class. The facility also offers birthday parties and private events with no membership required. 3505 Carlin Springs Rd., Falls Church; 4 p.m.–10 p.m. Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; open range: $15 per hour for members with equipment, $18 per hour for members with equipment rental
