Counting Down to Halloween
“Now that summer is almost over, all of my attention has gone to Halloween. I’ve already picked up a few new decorations and have been eyeing the opening of my local Spirit Halloween for weeks. As I work on various spooky projects this weekend, I’m also picking up my ticket for this year’s Shocktober haunted house. As one of the scariest in the country, it has definitely been added to my holiday bucket list.” –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor

Taking a Bite
“I avoid caffeine and alcohol unless I have to imbibe for work. But when editing this piece about RĀKO Coffee Roasters’ new all-day cafe, something stood out: salteñas. I’ll be heading to Arlington’s Courthouse neighborhood for a taste of juicy Bolivian meat pies–maybe I can be persuaded to have a cocktail or cup of joe, too.” –Alice Levitt, food editor/critic

Don’t Be Bitter
“In stark contrast with Alice, I give myself the jitters on a daily basis with my caffeine consumption. We recently featured A Sense of Place for their skill in creating a specialty iced drink. But they’ve also got a long menu of almost intimidatingly intense pour-over options, made with their house-fermented beans. Why not try both?” –James Finley, senior editor

Correspondence Class
“I’m mentally composing the letters I’ll write on lovely stationery after a trip to Penny Post in Old Town. I have a weakness for pretty paper goods!” –Kelly Kendall, editor
