Updated May 31, 2022. There’s something about even simple iced coffees that make them a decadent treat. Sure, plain coffee is what many people need to get their day started, but put it over ice, put on your sunnies and get outside, sipping in the sunshine and … it’s just a different vibe.
With a heat wave hitting the region this week, start your morning off with a ice cold pick me up. We’ve rounded up some great cafes in Northern Virginia, each raising the bar for iced coffee with their signature iced drink.
Commonwealth Joe
Commonwealth Joe is a modernly designed cafe in Pentagon City with a variety of iced coffee drinks. Seriously – a few delicious items from their menu include an iced cookie butter latte and a honey vanilla oat milk cold brew latte. You can even get them delivered. 520 12th St. South, Ste. 150, Arlington
Compass Coffee
This local coffee company is a staple in DC, and has a location right in the bustling Rosslyn area. Their nitro cold brews are borderline infamous–rich, creamy, and strong, with that boost of nitrogen, and sometimes flavors like mint and vanilla. It’s available in regular to-go cups, but it’s also sold ready to go in 32-ounce growlers, so you can have some nitro cold brew stocked up at home. 1201 Wilson Blvd. (in the CEB building), Arlington; 4100 Wilson Blvd., Arlington; 10400 Fairfax Blvd., Fairfax
Philz Coffee
This San Francisco-based coffee shop is known for its mint mojito – and the iced version of this coffee drink is highly refreshing at the height of a Virginia summer. But what’s summer without #roseallday? Philz also has iced rosé coffee, which is iced coffee topped with sweet rosé cream. Grab both drinks at their Ballston location. 4121 Wilson Blvd., Arlington
Colada Shop
Another DC staple for coffee, Colada Shop opened a new location at the Bloomie’s in Mosaic District over the summer. It has a heavily Cuban-inspired menu, and its coffee drinks are no exception. Its iced honey-coconut latte tastes like a morning at the beach: Coconut, espresso, and orange blossom honey perk your tastebuds right up. 2920 District Ave., Ste. 180, Fairfax
