Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream Will Open In Arlington This Summer

Look for flavors ranging from chocolate and vanilla to Thai sweet basil.

We all grew up with Baskin-Robbins trumpeting its 31 flavors. But Rollin Amore is about to handily beat that number. Late this summer, the retired financial advisor will help cool down customers with 42 flavors of ice cream and sorbet at Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream.

Mimi’s is named for one of Amore’s two daughters. He traces his roots creating desserts with unique flavors to his travels across Europe and Asia throughout his 35-year career. When he returned home, he resolved to recreate the flavors that he enjoyed abroad as sweets for Mimi and Alexandra.

He’ll use locally sourced ingredients to create handmade ice cream in flavors both basic (think premium chocolate and vanilla) and exotic. Those will include mango, sweet Thai basil, and matcha.

“I have been cooking and creating desserts since I was 7 years old, and I am excited to make this hobby my job,” said Amore in a press release. “Americans love ice cream, and I plan to have dozens of unique ice cream flavors for our patrons.”

Amore went on to say that he looks forward to opening in the National Landing neighborhood. Readers may know the location as Pentagon Row, but the shopping center, best known for businesses including Bun’d Up, Origin Coffee, and Mattie & Eddie’s, is rebranding as Westpost at National Landing. Look for another new addition at the center, Nighthawk Pizza, in the fall. It comes courtesy of John Spero, the chef behind Reverie in Georgetown. // 1201 S. Joyce St., Arlington
