Fall is here! Head to these area farms and orchards to select your front porch-worthy pumpkin and enjoy some seasonal fun and treats:
Nall’s Produce
Through Nov. 3, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Pick pumpkins, squash, gourds, cornstalks, Indian corn and straw from regional farms in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania at this Alexandria garden center. There is a free play area for kids of all ages with tunnels and a penny hunt, Pumpkin Wall background for fall-themed family photos and a store with fresh apple cider, seasonal snacks, candies and every variety of apple and squash. Cox Farms
Through Nov. 2, hours and days vary for store and hayride
The annual Fall Festival and Fields of Fear are canceled this year, but this year you can do a self-driven version of their famous hayride ($15-$20) on Fridays through Mondays. Afterwards, hit the Fall Festival Market, which is also drive-through this year; orders for produce, cider, donuts and other treats need to be placed online and picked up immediately. // 15621 Braddock Road, Centreville
Great Country Farms

The Bluemont farm’s annual Fall Pumpkin Harvest Festival features wagon rides to pick pumpkins, a corn maze, a 12-acre play area, cider pressing demos, marshmallow roasting, live music, barn animals, goodies in the farm store and, for a separate fee, Pumpkin Cannons and the Cow Train. Admission costs $16/adult and $14/child on weekends and Columbus Day, $12/adult and $10/child on weekdays, and under 2 years old free; advanced tickets booked online are required for Saturday and Sunday visits. Wegmeyer Farms

The Hamilton farm grows more than 50 varieties of pumpkins, including traditional Jack-o-Lanterns and unique heirlooms and their u-pick pumpkin field is adjacent to an old stone barn built in the 1700s where you’ll check-in and check-out. This year, advanced reservations are required; the $25 nonrefundable ticket gives your family access to the patch and can be used towards your first $25 worth of pumpkins. // 38299 Hughesville Road, Hamilton
Pumpkin Village

In addition to the chance to pick your perfect round (or tall) pumpkin, you and your family can partake in slides, pedal carts, a kiddie zip line, spooky trail, obstacle course, hay maze, lawn games and more, with additional offerings on the weekend like a Pumpkin Bounce Pillow, live entertainment, camel rides and free cider, apples and pumpkin cookies. (Indoor play areas, the moon bounce and a few other activities are closed this year.) Krop’s Crops

Take a 20-minute tractor-driven hayride ($4/person, 3 and under free) at the 20-acre farm in Great Falls to pick pumpkins, then purchase several varieties of Winchester-grown apples, freshly-pressed cider, fall squash and gourds, harvest and Halloween decorations and mums. Kids will enjoy seeing the farm animals and playing in the corn bin, and you can book reservations online for children’s groups and evening group campfires. // 11110 VA-193, Great Fall
Burnside Farms

Though the Fall Market in Haymarket will be closed for the 2020 season, the Nokesville farm is welcoming visitors in October with a corn maze, pumpkins and fun fall activities. Check the website for upcoming ticket reservations. // 11008 Kettle Run Road, Nokesville
Belvedere Plantation

The 645-acre heritage farm in Fredericksburg dating back to the 1760s is offering more than 30 activities during its Harvest Festival. Admission includes a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, Maize Maze, Fun Barn, Zippitydoo, Olde Barnyard, Swine Speedway, Pumpkin Mountain Slide, Jumping Pillow, Barrel Train, Pedal Tractors, Straw Jump, Trike Track and Candy Cannon Show. (Several activities including the Ball Zone have been closed by the State Health Department because of the pandemic.) Admission is $17.95/person on weekends and Columbus Day and $13.95/person on weekdays; kids 2 years and under are free. Whitehall Farms

This year’s Fall Open House at the Clifton farm will look a bit different, with visitors on wagon rides spaced out 6-feet and wearing masks and no corn maze or bounce house; as a result they have lowered the admission price. However there are still 9-million-square-feet of the great outdoors with natural trails, lawn games, a field of pumpkins, farm animals and food prepared by The Fermented Pig. Tickets cost $10 for adults and children 3 and over and $8 for active-duty military and their families and must be purchased online through Eventbrite, pre-ordering is recommended as there is a limited amount of tickets each day. // 12523 Popes Head Road, Clifton
Sneads Farm
Sept. 26 to Nov. 1, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., closed Oct. 7 for private party
The Fredericksburg farm offers continuous hayrides with bales placed for social distancing and heirloom pumpkins priced by the size, not by the pound; large ones in the back field are $8 while smaller ones in the front field are $4. To avoid crowded lines, visitors will be for them from their cars as they exit. There are also four mountain slides, a Whispering Pines play forest, sand pile, llamas and horses, creekside play, trails and a hay barn. Admission is $12 on weekends and Columbus Day and $9 on weekdays, with kids ages 2 and under free and is purchased at the gate; guests are invited to bring in their own food on weekdays. // 18294 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg
