Alamo Drafthouse to reopen NoVA locations; One Loudoun theater adding a drive-in option

Both Alamo Drafthouse indoor theaters and the drive-in will feature new releases and classic family films starting next week.

After months of streaming and re-watching old movies, movie theaters are finally reopening. Alamo Drafthouse is joining the list of theaters welcoming back moviegoers with both of its Northern Virginia locations, in One Loudoun and Woodbridge, opening the last week of August.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Woodbridge will be opening its doors on Monday, Aug. 24 with the Ashburn location reopening on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

“The cinema is such a sacred place for us all,” said Anthony Coco and Joseph Edwards, co-owners of Alamo Woodbridge and One Loudoun, in a recent press release. “We have made many upgrades to our operation, and we’re looking forward to fostering the safest possible movie-going experience for both our team members and the Northern Virginia community.”

As a thank you to loyal customers, Alamo Drafthouse will be the first theater company to show Bill & Ted Face the Music, with early, free screenings of the anticipated release on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

In true Alamo Drafthouse fashion, the movie schedule for the upcoming month will feature films that follow a theme. The August series is called “Making up for lost time,” with movies that explore time, time travel and lost time, including Inception, the Back to the Future series and The Edge of Tomorrow. In September, the theater will focus on “Masks!,” with movies focused on your favorite masked heroes and villains, including Mad Max: Fury Road and The Silence of the Lambs.

The Alamo Drive-In

In addition to these locations reopening, Alamo Drafthouse in One Loudoun will be opening a drive-in theater for those wanting to enjoy the movie experience from the safety of their car. The grand opening of the Alamo Drive-In will take place on Thursday, Aug. 27 with the showing of Marvel’s latest film The New Mutants.

This drive-in experience will run through November (weather-permitting), with a combination of new releases and classic movies playing on the big screen. Movie lovers can also expect to see some spooky Halloween classics come October.

The movie schedule for the opening weekend includes The New Mutants, Jurassic Park and Bill & Ted Face the Music.

The drive-in will have one showing per day, with the movie starting around 8:45 p.m. The lot will be open to ticket holders 90 minutes before showtime, with parking locations being first-come, first-served. Tickets will cost $30 per car with two people with an additional fee per guest after the first two. // 20575 Easthampton Plaza, Ashburn and 15200 Potomac Town Place, Suite 100, Woodbridge
