The Alden to host its second Drive-Thru Drama in September

Auditions for the drive-thru performance of “From the Ash Baxter Files: The Search for the Stolen Spyglass” will take place online until mid-August. Here’s what to know as a performer or patron.

This summer has been all about the resurgence of the drive-thru movie theater. While movies have been the main use of the drive-thru format, many other performing arts groups have decided to take their plays to the parking lot too. After a successful, sold out drive-thru performance the first time around, The Alden is bringing back its Drive-Thru Drama in September.

The theater will be performing From the Ash Baxter Files: The Search for the Stolen Spyglass in the parking lot of the McLean Community Center. The drive-thru performance will take place Fridays through Sundays, Sept. 11 to 13, 18 to 20 and 25 to 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets for the drive-thru range between $15 and $20.

When arriving at the community center, participants will notice that this isn’t the typical drive-thru performance. Visitors will drive up to each actor and roll down their windows to hear each short scene of the story.

“We were thrilled to see so many enjoy our first Drive-Thru Drama performance in July,” said Danielle Van Hook, the show’s producer and The Alden’s Director of Youth Theatre Programs, in a recent press release. “Since then, we have been working to develop a new show and I think audiences will enjoy the surprises that we have in store.”

The Andrew Scott Zimmer play, From the Ash Baxter Files: The Search for the Stolen Spyglass, is an interactive mystery that follows Ash Baxter. Baxter is the school detective and is searching for his teacher’s priceless spyglass that has been stolen. Participants will help Baxter narrow down the suspect list and solve the mystery.

If you or your teens are interested in joining the productions, the theater is holding online auditions until Tuesday, Aug. 18. All actors must be 14 years or older to participate in the production. There are no ethnicity requirements and very few age and gender requirements for the different characters.

In order to audition, actors need to submit a casting form and link to their video recording of one of the provided monologues. Callbacks will be on Thursday, Aug. 20 over Zoom. // 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean
