Massanutten Resort announces phased reopening starting this month

Staff trainings, revamped activity programs, deep cleaning and more are all a part of the popular resort’s new safety protocols amid COVID-19.

Massanutten Resort, a popular escape for Northern Virginians located in the Shenandoah Valley, announced at the end of May it will begin its reopening operations this month, starting Friday, June 12.

The resort plans to reopen in phases, at partial capacity, and amenity availability will be based upon the Virginia Department of Health and Gov. Ralph Northam’s latest guidance and restrictions.

Massanutten’s retail shops, day spa, golf courses and restaurants will be open to guests, but limitations to hours of operation and capacity, as well as operational changes, will occur. Guests that want to dine at the resort’s restaurants are encouraged to call ahead to reserve a dining time.

The resort is also asking guests to reduce time spent on each transaction at shops, and to reduce lines. All amenity tickets can be pre-purchased online or over the phone to help avoid queue lines in person, although they will be properly marked for guests’ convenience at the resort itself.

Massanutten is also currently working on revamping its activity program to abide by restrictions while still having fun. New programs in development are a weekly resort parade led by Massanutten’s mascot, Theo the Bear, and a drive-up movie experience in the resort’s ski area.

For guest safety, the resort’s team has also promised to frequently sanitize elevator buttons, door handles, reception counters, chairs, windows and restrooms throughout the reopening.
